Liberty Grove Starts Bike Planning

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Neptune Dive Club has been in contact with the town with a proposal to construct a staircase down to the water for divers to access Deaths Door from Port Des Morts Park. The Parks and Properties Committee and the Waterfront Committee are both looking into the proposal and will make their recommendations to the Town Board.

• The contract has been signed with the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation for the development of a Comprehensive Bike Plan for Liberty Grove. A Bicycle Plan Steering Committee is being formed. It is estimated it will take 4 to 5 months to develop the plan.

• The Plan Commission is proposing a text amendment to Sec. 7.06(4)(b)(2), DC Zoning Ordinance, to allow off premise parking in Heartland zoned districts for public boat launching facilities. This will allow the development of a parking area at the Garrett Bay Launch Ramp. Currently all parking is on the side of the road. This has become a safety concern for the town. It will be making its recommendation to the Town Board.

• The Waterfront Committee is beginning to discuss and develop plans for the Garret Bay Launch Ramp.

• The US Postal Service has informed the town that the trailer to be used as a temporary Post Office in Ellison Bay should arrive within the next two weeks. It will be used while remodeling takes place of the Post Office.

• The town is still waiting to hear the results of the request to mark pedestrian crossings in Ellison Bay. The request was sent to DOT in late winter.

• Supervisor Miller, who spearheaded the Coastal Scenic Byways effort, will be attending the Scenic Byways Workshop on July 19.

• The “markers and foundations” section of the Cemetery Ordinance has been updated to be more specific regarding the placement of markers. This was done to assist the Town Crew when mowing the cemeteries.

• Reminders: Shred Fest will take place August 14; Board of Review will take place August 18; Summer Listening Session will take place August 25.
