The tiny community of Gills Rock may see a big change if voters in the Town of Liberty Grove approve the purchase of three shorefront properties at a town meeting Oct. 16.
The stretch of 440 feet of shoreline is owned by three separate entities – Weborg Bros. Dock, Elizabeth Weborg, and the Richard Johnson family. The agreed price for the Weborg Dock parcel, assessed at $694,000, is $487,350. The price for the Elizabeth Weborg property, assessed at $625,900, is $586,100. The price for the Richard Johnson property, assessed at $405,000, is $379,200. The total price for all three parcels is $1,452,800. Today’s estimated fair market value of the three parcels according to Door County land records amounts to a little more than $1.6 million.
Voters rejected the $2.35 million price tag for these three parcels and one other when it went to voters in 2010.
Voters will be asked to authorize the town board to purchase the land before voting on another budget item to approve the town to exceed the state levy limit for 2019 by $598,639.76, or 34 percent.
The budget hearing takes place at 7 pm Oct. 16.
