Liberty Grove Town Update

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The US Postal Service has notified the town that they will utilize the North Fire Station as a temporary location during the remodeling of the Ellison Bay Post Office. Laaksonen builders will be making alterations in the North Fire Station to accommodate the temporary quarters.

• Regular times and dates have been established for committee Mmeetings. They are posted on the town Web site.

• The 2010 road maintenance schedule has been approved. The roads to be paved or chip sealed are posted on the town Web site. Adjoining property owners will be notified of the projects.

• A petition for placing a swim raft at the Ellison Bay beach was received by the board. Due to budgeting and safety concerns it was decided not to place a raft at the beach this year. The matter was referred to Parks and Property for consideration for next year. Swim buoys and informational signs will be placed at the beach this season.

• Dick Burress, Director of Emergency Services for Door County, has presented the town with a plaque in recognition of the town’s support of the First Responders.

• The Economic Sustainability Committee is planning to meet with business and service organizations to open dialog with the organizations. It also wishes to explore how the town may assist the various groups. A sub committee was formed to research possible uses for the remainder of the old fire station. The post office will not use all of the building. Finishing the front of the building is also being considered. Their recommendations will be sent to Parks and Property Committee.

• The board has requested a joint meeting with the Sister Bay Village Board to discuss the Waster Water Treatment agreement. A new or revised one is needed.

• A round table discussion of “Working Virtually” is scheduled at the Town Hall on Monday, May 3 at 7pm. Business and professional people who utilize the Internet in Northern Door county to conduct their business/profession have been invited to share their insights and input. The meeting is open to the public.

• The town has signed the Door County Coastal Byway intergovernmental agreement. Supervisors Anne Miller and Frank Forkert have been the town’s representatives in the discussions leading to the Intergovernmental Agreement and Coastal Byways designation.
