Light, Shadow, and Texture Inspire Featured Artist at the Katie Gingrass Gallery

“Birches with Red Maple,” by David Schaefer.

An artist opening for David Schaefer and benefit event for Altrusa will be held at the Katie Gingrass Gallery at Liberty Square on July 10 between 4 – 6 pm. Complimentary wine and gourmet hors d’oeuvres by the Bistro at Liberty Square will be available.

Schaefer, a Wisconsin artist, employs an ultra-thick impasto technique in his abstract and landscape paintings. Early on, Schaefer was inspired by the sense of spontaneity found in the Impressionist masters. His surfaces are highly textural, with dense strokes of oil paint juxtaposed to smooth areas.

The exhibit will be on display until the middle of August. The Katie Gingrass Gallery and Liberty Square will donate 25 percent of all gallery sales during this month to Altrusa, a local non-profit dedicated to serving the education-related needs of underprivileged Door County children. The same donation was provided to the Door County Humane Society in May and the Peninsula Art School in June. For the rest of the season, future artist openings will similarly benefit the Birch Creek Music Festival and the Door County Land Trust.

The Katie Gingrass Gallery is located in the Liberty Square complex in Egg Harbor. For more information visit
