Lighthouse History at DCHS Dinner

The Door County Historical Society’s (DCHS) May 22 dinner meeting will be all about family when Ann Sheridan, Ed and Sandy Miller, and Laurie Baum present “Family Matters: The Duclons, the Davenports and Sister Lighthouses.”

Baum will share her research into the family history of Capt. William Duclon, the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse keeper from 1883 to 1918 who lived at the lighthouse with his wife, Julia Davenport, and their seven sons. Baum researched Davenport’s lineage as well, which also includes lighthouse keepers.

Sheridan and Ed Miller interpret Julia and Capt. Duclon, respectively, for many DCHS events. Along with Sandy Miller, they will share information and never-before-heard stories about the Eagle Bluff and Chambers Island lighthouses. Doors will open at 5:30 pm for the dinner and program at the Door County Fire Company, 38 S. Third Ave. in Sturgeon Bay; dinner will be served at 6 pm; and the program will follow.

The cost of $30 for the general public and $25 for DCHS members includes a meal of chicken, stuffing, potatoes, veggies, rolls, dessert, coffee and lemonade. Registration is required by May 17 through the link at doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org/monthly-programs.
