Lighting Up the Store

The Jacksonport Craft Cottage, now in its 30th year, is happy to feature the work of Ginger and Richard Michel. The Michels do carving work on their own green-ware pieces to create a very unique line of Door County Lighthouse ceramics.

The Michels started their business in 1998 because of their love for the lighthouses of Door County and the need they saw for gifts people could take home of the lighthouses and use in their own homes.

What makes their ceramic pieces different is that they carve while the clay is still in green-ware form. It gives the scene on each piece a 3D effect, which is enhanced by their antiquing application. They carve more 70 different pieces with a variety of lighthouse scenes from the Door County area. The Michels have created their designs on teapots, lamps, coaster sets, match holders, bird feeders, lanterns, plates, jewelry boxes, candleholders, vases and many other pieces. All their ceramics are lead-free, dishwasher safe and safe in the microwave or oven. The Jacksonport Craft Cottage Gifts, open 9 am – 5 pm daily, is located on Highway 57 in Jacksonport.
