Linden Centre Receives Phoenix Award

The Linden Centre, a Himalayan-based cultural retreat established by Ellison Bay residents Brian and Jeanee Linden, was the recipient of The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) coveted Phoenix Award. This award was established by SATW in 1969 to recognize conservation and preservation efforts of individuals and organizations as they relate to travel. Of the four awards granted this year, The Linden Centre was only non U.S.-based recipient.

Established in 2008, The Linden Centre is housed in a Chinese National Relic that was authentically preserved by the Lindens and more than 100 local craftsmen. The Centre facilitates cross-cultural understanding by engaging local residents in guest programming. Currently, the Lindens are restoring the WWII Flying Tigers radio station; it will serve as a museum highlighting America’s contribution to China’s fight against the Japanese.
