Link Gallery Hosts Plein Air Artists

The Door Community Auditorium (DCA) in collaboration with the Peninsula Art School (PAS) is hosting an exhibit of the artwork of 18 artists who participated in the 2008 Door County Plein Air Festival. The exhibit, which opened August 5 and will continue through September 3, is an excellent representation of the paintings rendered during the July event.

Celebrating the peninsula’s beauty, 40 artists in a variety of artistic mediums set up easels in locales throughout Door County. Painting in hay fields and flower patches, on beaches and in the parks, the artists utilized the natural light in the tradition of “plein air” translated as “in the open air.”

Following the two-week PAS sponsored Door County Plein Air Festival, a select number of the paintings were relocated to the DCA Link Gallery. The exhibited artists include: Scott Anderson, Bridget Austin, Lori Beringer, Christina Body, Bonnita Budysz, Mary Ann Davis, Richard Dziak, Anne Ibur, Shelby Keefe, Tom Maakestad, Kathleen Newman, James Richards, Linda Richichi, Neil Sherman, Jeff Swaluk, Rodrica Tilley, Jack Wahl, and Brett Weaver.

“There isn’t a single person or landscape or subject which doesn’t possess some interest, although it may not be immediately apparent. When a painter discovers this hidden treasure, other people are immediately struck by its beauty,” wrote Pierre Auguste Renoir. Experience Door County’s hidden treasures with a visit to the Plein Air Exhibit in the DCA Link Gallery.

DCA is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10 am – 3 pm; weekend show days, 11 am – 3 pm; and one hour prior to a performance.
