Author Lisa Vihos will read from her novel, The Lone Snake: The Story of Sofonisba Anguissola; answer readers’ questions; and sign books Sept. 17, 1-2 pm, at Yardstick Books, 317 Steele St. in Algoma.
In The Lone Snake, Vihos brings Renaissance artist Sofonisba Anguissola to life as a woman who’s yearning for recognition in a world that’s not ready for her. Journey with Anguissola through her early years in Cremona to Rome, where she studies with Michelangelo, to her time in the Spanish court, and eventually out to sea, where she meets the love of her life. This rich portrayal of 16th-century life blends art history, romance and verse to tell a timeless tale of what it means to create.
Vihos’ poems have appeared in numerous poetry journals, and she has published four chapbooks. She has two Pushcart Prize nominations and several awards from the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters. Vihos is a founding editor of Stoneboat Literary Journal and the Sheboygan organizer for 100 Thousand Poets for Change. In 2020, she was named Sheboygan’s first poet laureate and hosts the Poetry on Air podcast for Mead Public Library.
