The Ephraim Historical Foundation has announced the schedule of their 2011 “History Speaks” series, which will take place on Tuesdays, July 12 through July 26 at 7:30 pm at Ephraim Village Hall. This year’s series will offer a wide variety of topics for the public.

On July 12, Dr. John F. Marszalek, Giles Distinguished professor and editor of the Ulysses S. Grant Association, Mississippi State University, will present a power point presentation of the largest collection of Ulysses S. Grant letters, items and artifacts in the world and the collection’s journey to Mississippi State University. Afterwards, attendees are welcome to view the Henry S. Vail’s private collection of Civil War memorabilia, including a sword and sheath, a rifle with bayonet, a cannonball and other artifacts on display.

On July 19, author Betty Cowley will present “Stalag Wisconsin: Prison of War Camps in Wisconsin.” WWII prisoner of war camps were located in Wisconsin in the mid-1940s. The establishment and operations of 38 work camps flourished and provided the U.S. Treasury much-needed income and labor.

On July 26, Sharon Grutzmacher of the Peninsula Music Festival and Alicia Mulliken of the Hardy Gallery will present “The History of the Peninsula Music Festival and the Hardy Galley.” The presenters will share their unique perspectives regarding the transformation and contribution these organizations offered Door County in the mid-20th century.
