Listening Sessions Scheduled on Former Nelson Property

The Town of Baileys Harbor invites members of the public to share thoughts about the Nelson’s hardware, motel and garage buildings with the project team from Edgewater Resources of St. Joseph, Michigan, during a listening session Monday, May 16, 6-7:30 pm, at the town hall auditorium, 2392 Cty F in Baileys Harbor.

The following night, Tuesday, May 17, 6-7:30 pm, the team will make a presentation of initial plan alternatives, developed with input from the previous evening’s meeting.

In addition to ideas for the property, residents at the annual town meeting in April were told they could discuss whether anything from the buildings should be saved prior to demolition.

Earlier in April, new town board member Terry McArdle emphasized that the town should rescue the massive beams inside the Nelson’s workshop, a former auto-dealership garage. A web of those huge beams above the ceiling carries the weight of the roof.

Just before selling the Nelson’s hardware, motel and garage buildings property to the town, former owner Gary Nelson gave us a peek at the massive beams above the garage ceiling – beams that town board member Terry McArdle says should be salvaged.
