Literacy Door County Featured Student: Afsana Sadiyeva

I came to Door County on a student work visa. I have worked several places in Sister Bay.

My family consists of five persons; my father Sarvat, my mother Rana, my older sister Tarana, my younger sister Mahbuba and myself. My father is a master furniture maker. He has a business. My mother is a housewife. I am the middle child in my family; my older sister is one year older than me and my little sister is three years younger than me.

My country is Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is located at the boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is a part of the Caucasus region and is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west and Iran to the south.

Azerbaijan is a small country, but we have beautiful nature. We have a good climate – not too hot and not too cold. Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan. We have a holiday called Novruz; it is celebrated when spring comes. Also we have national foods. Some are called dolma which is made with lamb, ash which is made with rice, and kebab which can be made with meat, fish or chicken.

In Baku I studied at the Azerbaijan Economic University. I have a degree in marketing. My future plan is – possibly – to work for McKinsey Company as a business analyst. Also, I have a talent for design. In the past, I worked as a graphic designer. Sometime, I would like to be a freelance graphic designer.

I love learning new things – about the world, technology and science. I also try to spend time alone. I like to be alone one hour during the day for meditation. I like to travel too, but before I travel, I need more money and information. I want to visit many countries!

I love nature and I fell in love with the nature here in Door County. The people here are nice and kind.
