Literacy Door County Takes Part in Campaign to Recruit 1,200 Literacy Tutors

This year marks the 13th annual tutor recruitment campaign to address the literacy needs of adults in Wisconsin; the campaign is to get 1,200 tutors in 12 weeks. Literacy Door County, Inc. (LDC) is a participant in the tutor campaign and is seeking to recruit volunteers throughout Door County.

According to Wisconsin Literacy, 1.5 million people qualify for literacy services in Wisconsin. LDC provides tutoring services to help adult learners improve their English language skills, obtain GEDs, upgrade their employment situations, obtain drivers licenses, or seek citizenship. Tutoring services assist not only adult students, but also bring about positive change for their family. When an individual’s literacy improves, he or she is more successful at work, the children are more successful in school, and the entire family more easily integrates and engages in the community.
