Literacy Door County to Hold Tutor Training Sessions this January

Literacy Door County, an organization offering one-on-one adult literacy tutoring for anyone wanting to improve their English skills, is holding Tutor Training Sessions in January. Literacy includes the ability to speak, read and write in English and is critical in achieving personal freedom and enhancing personal and economic well-being.

Literacy Door County trains their tutors following guidelines established by ProLiteracy. All students are tested and interviewed before being matched. Tutors do not need to have prior teaching experience. Policies and procedures for both tutors and students have been developed and a small reference library is available to tutors with additional aids for teaching. A tutor training program is required before being matched with a student. A $25 fee is charged, which covers the cost of supplies for the class.

Training sessions are scheduled for Jan. 19 & 26, 4-6 pm, at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay. Both sessions are required for certification. For more information visit literacydoorcounty.org.
