Literary Island

“Rooted in the Heartland: Themes of Family” is the theme for the second annual Washington Island Literary Festival, Oct. 2 – 5. Featured are authors Nickolas Butler, who has entered the literary world with his award-winning novel Shotgun Lovesongs, and Larry Watson whose novels continue to receive outstanding reviews. Other noted authors and poets who will read from and discuss their books are Susan Gloss, Susanna Daniel, Michelle Wildgen, Marnie Mamminga, Max Garland, Elizabeth Evans Sachs, Adam Schrager, Fritz Damler and Mari Anderson.

The events – readings, discussions, writers’ panel and workshops plus options for storytelling and poetry readings – will be of interest to anyone who loves books.

The festival will take place at several island venues, including the Trueblood Performing Arts Center, Farm Museum Barn, The Historic Island Dairy and the Red Barn. The early-bird registration fee is $75 per person ($90 after Sept. 15) and includes all events, coffee breaks and Saturday dinner. Additional fees apply for most workshops. Interested participants are encouraged to reserve accommodations as soon as possible, as the weekend is during prime fall color viewing.
