Live and Run Strong

There is a wonderful program available to help neighbors who are on the road to cancer recovery. It is known as LIVESTRONG at the YMCA.

Recovering cancer survivors are able to participate in a small-group exercise and movement program to improve their health and quality of life while diminishing the adverse affects of cancer or its various treatments. Each 12-week session is comprised of classes that meet for 75 minutes, two times per week. All program participants are also able to receive a free family Y membership.

In order to fund this program, the YMCA is partnering with the Blossom Run with Runstrong for a Cause for a special fundraising running event. There will be a five-mile race on May 10 through the cherry blossoms of Egg Harbor in support of those who are recovering from cancer.

Sign up to participate in Runstrong for a Cause, volunteer to help during the race or provide a financial donation in support of one of the LIVESTRONG runners. Additionally, the Blossom Run features a two-mile event which runs concurrently with the five-mile run beginning at 8:30 am at Dock Park in Egg Harbor with a one-mile youth fun run beginning at 9:30 am. For those participating in the run, no registration fee is required, but runners are asked to raise a minimum of $100 to race. To register, visit firstgiving.com/doorcountyymca/LIVESTRONG2014.
