Local Artists Accepted into Neville Museum’s Juried Art Annual

Door County artists Shan Bryan-Hanson, Lynn Gilchrist and Arlene Stanger have artwork accepted into the upcoming 72nd Art Annual juried exhibition at the Neville Public Museum of Brown County, Green Bay.

Submissions were open to artists in 24 counties of northeastern Wisconsin plus 14 counties of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and were selected by juror Helen Klebesadel. The juried annual has been a mainstay of the museum since its inception.

Stanger’s two selected pieces are photographs titled “Hat Shop” and “Morning Fog.” The Baileys Harbor photographer says that she was drawn to the “amazing light” in both scenes of muted color and quiet atmosphere. Stanger has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally. Her photographs can be viewed at Woodwalk Gallery, Egg Harbor, this season.

Gilchrist’s oil, “Monarch Sanctuary,” depicts a wildflower garden in full summer bloom. It was painted during last summer’s Door County Plein Air Festival Quick-Paint Competition. The award-winning Sturgeon Bay artist has been invited or juried into exhibits across the country.

Bryan-Hanson lives in Sturgeon Bay and works at St. Norbert College where she directs the art galleries and teaches painting. Her work is represented locally by Cappaert Contemporary Gallery in Egg Harbor. Her accepted work, “Resonance,” is a graphite drawing that is part of a current body of work exploring boundaries of wilderness and artificial construct.

The Neville Public Museum’s 72nd Art Annual Juried Exhibition runs from April 8 to June 4. An awards presentation takes place April 11 at 6 pm; regular admissions fees apply. The museum is located at 210 Museum Place in Green Bay and is open daily excluding Mondays. For more information visit nevillepublicmuseum.org.
