Local Artist’s Work at Hope Art Alcoves

Visitors and residents of the Door County area still have a chance to view the work of Roxanne Hanney until Sept. 2 at the Hope Art Alcoves in Sturgeon Bay.

Taking her inspiration from the natural world, Hanney paints what compels her to look more closely and deeply. Here, she discovers patterns and abstractions, movements and moods. “Whether in the studio or ‘en plein air,’ pastels and oils are my media of choice because of their rich, vibrant colors and blended tonalities,” Hanney said, when asked about her inspirations.

Hanney’s work was juried into the annual exhibit at the Miller Art Museum and the Wall-to-Wall Salon show at the Hardy Gallery. She was an invited artist for the wildlife show at the Miller Art Museum in 2017. One of her pastels was juried into the biennial show at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, Florida, and just this past winter another pastel was accepted for the all-Florida show at the Alliance for the Arts. She earned distinctions in shows sponsored by the League of Milwaukee Artists, the Cedarburg Artists’ Guild and Wisconsin Pastel Artists.

The Hope Church Art Alcoves, located at 141 S 12th Ave in Sturgeon Bay, is open 9 am – 1 pm Tuesday through Friday and 11:30 am – 12:30 pm Sunday.
