Local Government Candidates Recuse from League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of Door County (LWVDC) announces that members Helen Bacon, Randy Halstead, Susan Kohout and Seth Wiederanders will not assume any major Voter Service responsibilities with the League during the upcoming election cycle. Bacon, Halstead and Kohout have filed papers to become candidates for County Board Supervisor in Districts 7, 16 and 6 respectively and Weideranders has filed papers to become a candidate for Sturgeon Bay City Council in District 6. While the League encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, they do not support or oppose any political party or candidate. The League’s nonpartisan policy dictates that members serving in sensitive leadership roles within the organization which could result in a conflict of interest must not be working to support a candidate for public office or be a candidate themselves. Bacon, Halstead, Kohout and Wiederanders will not participate in these roles during their candidacies and, if elected, while in office.
