Local Kids Appear in The Depot’s Holiday Shows

The Depot Performing Arts Center will celebrate its first Christmas program through the collaboration of Rogue Theater and Teatro Caravaggio, in the presentation of a Christmas radio double feature. The double bill will juxtapose two Christmas one acts – “Saint Nicholas and the Demon Tree” and “Christmas in the Willows,” adapted and directed by local playwright Henry C. Timm.

Along with the Christmas Eve shenanigans of Saint Nicholas (not to be confused with Santa Claus) the performers will visit the idyllic fields of Kenneth Grahame’s English riverbank on Christmas Eve, as described in Chapter Five of The Wind in the Willows. In this story, Grahame describes Rat and Mole paying an unexpected visit to Mole’s abandoned home on Christmas Eve. The two adventurers have barely entered Mole’s cozy old home when a group of young animals comes a-caroling in celebration of the time of the year.

Both plays will feature performances by Marcel Bruyere, Skyler Champeau, and local children will play the roles of young animals and carolers. They will be directed by Timm and produced in partnership with Rogue Theater stalwarts, Stuart Champeau and Lola DeVillers.

This event is family friendly with a short break between plays. The performance should last a little over an hour – just long enough to get the kids home by bedtime.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Children’s Book Drive. For each ticket sold, Rogue Theater will donate a book to the Children’s Book Drive.

Performances are scheduled for Dec. 13 – 15 and 20 – 22, at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday and 1 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. For tickets, call 920.818.0816 or visit Greco Gallery or Avenson Photography on Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.
