Local Parks Benefiting from Building Commission Funding

The latest round of projects funded by the Wisconsin State Building Commission include more than $2 million in repairs for approximately eight miles of roadway in Peninsula State Park, as well as funds for Whitefish Dunes State Park.

The commission, which oversees the planning, improvement, major maintenance and renovation of state facilities, approved a total of $28.3 million in projects across the state. Sen. André Jacque (R-De Pere), a member of the commission, said the funding for Peninsula State Park upgrades the park’s 1960s-era roadway. The road will be pulverized and overlaid with asphalt, with pavement markings and traffic control installed, according to the funding request submitted by the Department of Natural Resources.

Another $6,516 was funded for Whitefish Dunes State Park for improvements to the Old Baldy boardwalk.
