Rick Brawner, a Fish Creek artist, returned to Door County the last week of September from a ten-day plein air painting trip in Bar Harbor, Maine. The coastal scenery around Acadia National Park offers plein air painters subjects seldom seen in the Midwest – lobster boats, vast rocky shores and rural early American architecture. Plein air is French for painting outdoors, which comes with its own set of challenges in Maine. Rough weather sweeping in off the north Atlantic, rapidly changing light conditions and the possibility of encountering a moose are some of these challenges.
Brawner has been selected in local exhibits in the Hardy Gallery, Ephraim and the Miller Art Museum, Sturgeon Bay. He also won first place in the Dock Side Quick Paint during the 2013 Plein Air Festival in Fish Creek. His work can bee seen at Linger Coffeehouse and the Door County Art League Gallery, both located in Fish Creek. For more information about Brawner visit doorcountyartist.com.
