Local Runner Joins Lance Armstrong Foundation in Fight Against Cancer

Local Ellison Bay resident Krista Lawell has joined the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s (LAF) fight against cancer by raising funds through the ING New York City Marathon as a member of Team Livestrong. Lawell will run the ING New York City Marathon as a member of the LAF team in an effort to do something bold in the face of cancer by supporting the mission of the LAF to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.

Lawell has pledged to raise $3,500 for the LAF by running the ING New York City Marathon on November 1, 2009.

“I love running and have completed a number of marathons both as a runner and a pace team leader, but I feel strongly that it’s the right time to run for a cause and help out a charity, especially since cancer is something that has touched the lives of so many friends, family and community members,” said Lawell.

“Supporting the LAF by becoming a grassroots fundraiser is an exciting opportunity for me to step forward in a unique way to help empower and inspire people affected by cancer.”

Lawell continued, “I particularly indentified with the LAF’s fundamental belief that ‘unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything.’ I am proud to join thousands of other LAF supporters around the world in raising much needed funds.”

Funds raised through Team Livestrong’s ING New York City Marathon will enable the LAF to continue helping people across the nation with the physical, emotional and practical challenges of cancer. Since its inception in 1997, the LAF has awarded more than $29 million to cancer survivorship programs and research.
