Local Singer Writes Door County Theme Song

In the chorus of her new song, “My Door County Home,” Jamie Palmer writes, “Beauty abounds here / Each season astounds here / And makes you so grateful to call this place home.”

This sentiment is especially poignant as the beginning of summer in Door County is not unfolding as it normally does. Although we miss gathering at bars, restaurants, galleries, plays and concerts, Palmer’s song reminds us of all the wonderful things that make us lucky to be in Door County, even during a pandemic.

“I wrote this piece out of a love for Door County and my concern for the impact that the pandemic was having on all of our lives,” Palmer said. “I felt that there was a need out there to reassure and pull us all together around a common and calming sentiment.”

Palmer, who sings with the Swingin’ Door Big Band and narrates for the Peninsula Symphonic Band, wrote the lyrics to “My Door County Home” and set them to the melody of Frank Sinatra’s “Moonlight in Vermont.” She chose this song both for its soothing jazz feel and the fact that it’s organized like a list, making it easy to include as many Door County descriptors as possible.

“I think that the words to ‘My Door County Home’ speak for themselves,” said Palmer. “There is beauty everywhere: in the people, in the towns, by the waterways and in the star-filled sky.”
