Local Soldier Exhibit Commemorates WW1 Centennial

The Door County Historical Museum is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the entry of the United States into the “Great War” – now known as World War I – with a display of Company F photographs and memorabilia. Company F comprised volunteers from Door and Kewaunee counties and was formed April 10, 1917, four days after the United States declared war on Germany.

Cheered on by large crowds and with great fanfare, Company F departed Sturgeon Bay for Camp Douglas, Wisconsin on Aug. 17, 1917, where they trained until late September. After several more months of training in Texas, the boys landed in France in February of 1918.

The museum encourages everyone to visit the museum and see the display and share memories of relatives with the museum staff. The Door County Historical Museum is located at 18 N 4th Ave in Sturgeon Bay.
