Local Team Places in World Championship BBQ

T-Mac Smokin, Door County’s own Professional BBQ Team from Sturgeon Bay, grabbed fourth place at the American Royal BBQ Competition at the Kansas City Speedway Sept. 16. The American Royal is called “The World Series of BBQ” and a World Championship BBQ Event. It is the largest BBQ Competition in the world, with 467 teams competing this year. In the meat categories, T-Mac Smokin walked the stage with a second place, 180 perfect score for chicken; 28th place in ribs; 112th in pork shoulder; and 29th in Brisket out of the 467 teams, winning the third Reserve Grand Champion spot (fourth place overall) and receiving their first-ever coveted 700 pin with an overall score of 701.6684 points (out of 720). Their honors also included walking to the stage for Reserve Grand Champion of the Side Dish Categories with fourth place in vegetable, fifth place in baked beans and 33rd in potato.

In the dessert entry they earned sixth place with a 180 perfect score. The husband/wife team of Tom and Becky McIntosh has been competing in professional BBQ since 2012. They have been full-time Door County residents since 2015 and part-time since 2005. They have also been Grand Champions of the Death’s Door BBQ Competition four of the seven years the contest has been held annually on Washington Island the weekend before Labor Day.
