Looking Back at “The Good Years”

The Good Year is a historical novel by Rosemary Hintz and was published in August 2013 by Infinity publishing. The novel is set in Door County during the early 1940s when the cherry industry was booming. It tells the story of Joe and Gracie Ahlman and their four children as they live through a year in the cherry business with all the excitement of harvest time with the migrant workers coming to help pick the cherries, then the disappointment of an unprofitable year.

Hintz has published two other historical novels, Return To Sawyer School, published in 1995, and Home Coming, published in 2009 by Infinity Publishing. Both novels are based on her life growing up in Sturgeon Bay and display life on the Door Peninsula as it was during the 1930s and 1940s. Her articles, short stories, and poetry have been published in the Door County Advocate, Green Bay Press Gazette, and other publications.
