Looking Forward to Fall Fest

Pumpkin Patch Weekend (known as Columbus Day outside Door County) is here, which means Fall Fest is right around the corner. As restaurants and shops flood with visitors this weekend, usually the busiest of the year for restaurants in Northern Door, the only relief for the staff now hanging by a thread is the vision of Fall Fest dancing in their heads.

The weekend full of music, smiles – and maybe a beer or two – has a couple new attractions on the docket this year that you may want to prep for.

Rumors of a “Best Facial Hair” contest are making the rounds, but there’s been no confirmation of a women’s division yet. More than a rumor is the Mechanical Bull that’s coming to the Sister Bay Bowl Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm (making one wonder exactly who has the urge to hop on a mechanical bull at 9 in the morning).

Sunday features a bungee jumping and paintball arena, but looking at the schedule, it’s not clear if that’s a combo activity or not. It will be cooler if it is.

There are, of course, the staples – the classic auto show at Waterfront Park, tons of food, arts and crafts, and Bloody Mary’s at Husby’s. There’s the pancake breakfast Saturday morning at the village hall, where the children’s cake walk is held Friday night. And of course, there’s the ping pong ball shoot (no more drop, unfortunately. Thanks a lot FAA).
