Los Angeles Children’s Chorus Coming to Door County

Anne Tomlinson, Artistic Director of the world-renowned Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, returns to her Door County roots to conduct a special performance of the children’s chorus on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 pm at the Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay.

The Touring Ensemble of Los Angeles Children’s Chorus will sing a concert highlighting the season’s theme “The Poet Sings.”

The chorus is being sponsored by Midsummer’s Music Festival.

“It has long been a dream of Anne’s to bring her exceptional children’s chorus to Door County where as a child she sang in the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church choir,” says Midsummer’s Music Artistic Director Jim Berkenstock. “We are proud to bring this talented chorus to Door County.”

The chorus comes to Door County after a June 2009 second appearance on the The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien where they collaborated with the John Mayer Trio on the song “California Dreamin.” The choir will also sing “The Star Spangled Banner” prior to a Milwaukee Brewers home game on Friday, July 24.

Tomlinson, appointed Artistic Director of Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC), conducts the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers and is responsible for the educational and artistic development of LACC. She also serves as Children’s Chorus Mistress for the Los Angeles Opera.

Tomlinson holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and Master’s degree in Conducting from Northwestern University. She has received the 2000 “Gold Crown Award” for Music Education, given by the Pasadena Arts Council, the 2001 “Power of One Award” given by Facing History and Ourselves Foundation, and the 2006 “Educator of the Year” Award given by the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Southern California.

A minimum $10 donation at the show is suggested for adults, and children under 17 are free.
