Lower Range Light On the Move

A piece of history was (carefully) moved on Feb. 12, when the Lower Range Light at The Ridges Sanctuary was transferred from its old foundation, built in 1869, to its new one, located fifteen feet north of its current location.

The move is the first step in the Ridges’ full restoration of the Lower Range Light, for which they successfully raised over $80,000 over the past two years.

The Lower Range Light has been restored and the old foundation has been rebuilt on a couple of prior occasions, but issues with high humidity inside the building led the Ridges to the decision to move the building to a new foundation. Moving the building further back from the road will also prevent snow from piling up next to it when Ridges Road is plowed.
