Lynn Gilchrist Featured in Manitowoc Exhibit

Two art exhibits featuring Sturgeon Bay artist Lynn Gilchrist will open Feb. 25 and run through March 25 at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc. An artist’s reception for Gilchrist will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Feb. 28. “Lynn Gilchrist creates very colorful and playful paintings,” said Sister Mariella Erdmann, Art Dept. Chair at SLC. Gilchrist’s landscapes are painted en plein air, or “out in the open,” giving the advantage of natural light. She also paints still life and figurative works that are often gestural, sometimes humorous. “Sincerity and color come first for me, followed by composition and line,” she said in her artist’s statement.

Gilchrist said she retains her passion for studying contemporary art trends while grounding her subjects in the real world. “I see drama and movement in the silent players of the natural world and try to reflect that in my art,” Gilchrist said. “I’m a saver by nature and I attempt to save many things I see: light, color, textures, and funny juxtapositions.”
