‘Magic Landscapes’ at PenArt

Peninsula School of Art’s newest exhibition, Magic Landscapes: Contemporary Landscape Painting, will open May 24 and run through July 13.

It features works by seven nationally recognized artists – Beth Edwards, Breehan James, Amy Talluto, Shannon Estlund, Zoe Hawk, Misha Kligman and Michael Kruger – who draw on the aesthetics of the Magic Realism movement of the mid-20th century to offer novel interpretations of the landscape.

“The possibilities of Magic Realism’s inherent mysteriousness, its underlying narrative qualities and its basis in everyday experience make it influential across a diverse range of contemporary artists, painters and photographers alike, who use the vocabulary and devices in unique ways,” said Catherine Hoke, Peninsula School of Art’s executive director.Magic Landscapes is free and open to the public Monday through Saturday, 8 am – 5 pm.
