Mailbox Food Drive Held on May 11

The National Association of Letter Carriers – in partnership with the United States Postal Service, National Rural Letter Carriers Association and the United Way – asks Door County residents to participate in a nationwide food drive on Saturday, May 11.

City and rural mail carriers will collect nonperishable food donations left in or by mailboxes in plastic bags by 9 am along their routes as they deliver mail. Volunteers will then help mail carriers take the food to food pantries. Food donations may also be dropped off at post offices.“We are overwhelmed by the great response we have had from the people in our community as evidenced by the 17,000 pounds of food collected by the Sturgeon Bay mail carriers last year and more than 25,000 pounds of food collected in Door County last year,” said local coordinator Darrell LeCloux.
