Make Writing Part of Your Summer

Write On, Door County offers new opportunities for people who want to make writing part of their activities this summer. “Listening for Your Own Voice: An Exploration of the Writing Life” is a six-part class offered in Sister Bay starting June 6. “Beginning Poetry” is a one-day morning workshop offered June 11 in Sturgeon Bay.

“Listening for Your Own Voice” is intended for those who want to explore all areas of creative writing. Instructors Karen Corekin and Cynthia DeLaMer will teach you how to silence your inner critic and will discuss the process of writing. Participants will explore fiction, nonfiction, poetry and memoir through both in-class writing exercises and take-home assignments. The class meets Saturdays, June 6, 13, 27, July 11, 18, and 25, 10 am – noon at the Northern Door Children’s Center, 10520 Judith Blazer Dr., in Sister Bay. Cost for the six-part class is $180.

Together, Corekin and DeLaMer facilitate Write On’s mixed genre writing group in Egg Harbor. They are writing a young adult novel and write poetry for the sheer joy of it.

“Beginning Poetry” is designed for those who are interested in writing poetry but don’t know how or where to start. Through word play exercises and fun writing activities, instructor Ann Heyse will walk participants step-by-step into finding the right words for creative, artistic expression. The class will be held June 11, 9 am – noon, at Glas Coffeehouse’s community room, 67 E. Maple St., Sturgeon Bay. The cost is $65.

Both offerings are appropriate for adults and young adults over the age of 16 who would like to begin creative writing. No previous writing experience is required. Enrollment for both classes is limited to 12. For more information or to register, call 920.868.1457 or email [email protected].
