Making the Turn

First Two-Time Winner in Horseshoe Bay Member / Guest

Horseshoe Bay member James “J.J.” Johnson of Sister Bay and his guest Stu Sickles captured the first repeat victory of the Men’s Member/Guest Invitational at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club on Saturday, June 20. The two-man team of Johnson and Sickles previously won this event in 2005. The Member/Guest is a signature two-day event steeped in tradition, challenging golfers to a demanding two-day test of five 9-hole matches, followed by a sudden death playoff. Other top finishers:  2nd Place – Fran and Scott Shefchik; 3rd Place – Fred and Mike Frey; 4th Place – Paul and Peter Mathias.

Peninsula Park Clubhouse Receives Facelift

As Peninsula State Park celebrates its 100th year, the golf course’s clubhouse received the finishing touches this spring to its first major renovation in over 20 years. Necessary updates and additions were made while maintaining the character and charm of the “old” clubhouse that golfers and visitors have come to love over the years. New stone entrance steps and a ceramic tiled porch greet golfers as they enter the newly designed foyer and freshly carpeted clubhouse. Once inside, the renovations are immediately noticeable with the expansive new picture windows showcasing the incredible water views of Eagle Harbor. Other updates include a new roof, remodeled bathrooms with skylights, new flooring, and upgraded vents, lights and fans throughout the building.

“This was beyond my expectations,” stated general co-manager Paul Schloemilch. “Everyone who walks in is floored by the facelift.”
