Making Waves: Featured Swimmer Brock Aune

Featured Swimmer: Brock Aune, 14, is a premier DCY Senior Elite swimmer. As an eighth-grader at Southern Door Middle School, he has already qualified for all of his State Championship events with his goal of making the 100-yard Breaststroke National cut.

This past weekend in Brown Deer, swimming at the 2015 Schroeder YMCA Finalist meet, Brock posted all best times in six events, winning the 13- to 14-year-old 200-yard Freestyle event. In his remaining five individual swims, he placed second in the 200-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Butterfly and 200-yard IM and third in the 50-yard Freestyle.

This YMCA meet showcased some of the best swimmers in the state in his age group. Brock has already swam several swim times that would qualify for the Wisconsin High School program’s State meet at age 14.

To prepare for the 2015-16 swim season, Brock trained during the summer at the Peak Performance training in tandem with summer national swimmer training. He also swam Fall Prep, a pre-season training program for higher level swimmers. Brock practices five days a week, along with weight training and dry land training.

Aune’s personal goal is to win a state championship event this year. With only three boys that made National cuts from the DCY SWIM team at age 14, he ambitiously aspires to have all his hard work pay-off and compete on the national level in Greensboro, North Carolina in summer of 2016.

Coach’s Notes: DCY SWIM team placed second at the 2015 Schroeder YMCA Finalist Meet this past weekend. DCY SWIM team posted approximately 75 percent best times as a team. The relays placed extremely well, moving up several places from seeded times.

The DCY eight & under girls won their 100 Freestyle relay: Amelia Michalski, 6, Kailyn Neville, 7, Julia Michalski, 8, and Caitlyn Hasenjager, 8. They qualified for the state championship meet along with our 13- to 14-year-old girls medley and freestyle relays.

Our Open (age) Boys relay, swimming with two swimmers under the age of 14, placed third in both the Medley and Freestyle relays. Very impressive swimming, especially since they swam against 18-year-old swimmers.

Overall, DCY SWIM team had nine swimmers swim best times in all of their events during the three-day meet.

Upcoming Meet: DCY’s home meet, Jingle Bell Meet, is set for Saturday, Dec. 19. The meet starts at 9 am. If you would like to see some really incredible swimming, please stop by the Door County YMCA in Sturgeon Bay.
