MAM Hosts 37th Annual Salon of Door County High School Art

Sevastopol High School students work on their art in the classroom in preparation for the Miller Art Museum’s 37th Salon of Door County High School Art.

Opening April 23 and continuing through May 31, the Miller Art Museum will feature artwork by Door County High School students. A special reception will be held on Monday, April 25 from 7 – 8:30 pm. Certificates and cash awards will be presented by art teachers at 7:30 pm. The Door County Art League will also present $100 to each art department in the county. Refreshments will be served.

Beginning the first year of operation, the Miller Art Museum has hosted an annual high school art exhibit made possible through a collaboration between the museum and the high school art instructors. The exhibit is sponsored by Altrusa Club of Door County, Miriam Erickson, Jacksonport Women’s Club, Carl and Ruth Scholz, and Hermke and Elke Timm.

During the course of the exhibit, several elementary student tours will take place. Any school districts interested in bringing their students are welcome to do so. Call ahead to set up a time and a guide will be available.

Also, exhibited on the mezzanine level are the newest 2010 acquisitions to the permanent collection. Thirty pieces were added to the collection through purchases, memorial gifts, and donations.

The Miller Art Museum, open Mondays from 10 am – 8 pm and Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm, is located at 107 S 4th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. Admission is free; donations are always appreciated. For more information call 920.746.0707 or visit http://www.millerartmuseum.org.
