MAM Hosts Show in Conjunction with Big Read

The Miller Art Museum (millerartmuseum.org) has opened a pop-up exhibition, on display through Feb. 15, in conjunction with the Door County Library’s 2021 NEA Big Read activities. The museum invited artists to interpret the Big Read selection – Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel – through visual art. The installation offers a selection of interpretations of the futuristic novel and a local rendition of the Museum of Civilization that’s featured in the book.

St. John Mandel’s novel emphasizes the imaginary and utopian possibilities that could accompany disaster, and in it, a Museum of Civilization serves as a fun collection of items for the young and nostalgic reminders of the past for the old. A desire for art and culture endures even among the most dire circumstances.

Because of the pandemic, the museum is open to the public only by reservation. All visitors must wear a face covering and maintain physical distance. Please review all safety guidelines before visiting.
