Man Pinned Beneath Vehicle in Fatal Accident

John M. Smejkal died Saturday evening, May 23, after being pinned by his car in his Liberty Grove driveway.

The 76-year-old was discovered by emergency-services personnel who were dispatched following the report of a crash at Smejkal’s Wisconsin Bay Road property at 7:13 pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation indicated that the driver had been backing his Chevrolet Monte Carlo down a steep driveway when he lost control of the vehicle. He appeared to have exited his vehicle while it was still moving and became pinned underneath it in the process.

The Sister Bay-Liberty Grove first responders, the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Fire Department and Door County Emergency Services all assisted with the call. 

The Door County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation.
