Manners Matter

Dear Readers,

I am responding here to a letter that I received a couple weeks ago by a good friend of several of my regular letter writers. Many of you probably would recognize their names since they are certainly not easy to forget (being able to spell them is another matter) – Mabel Messerschmidt, Lambert Luskuscki, and Lenore Farmbureau. From what I gather from this friend, it seems as though not all of their social inquiries have been addressed by me and as a result, they may be feeling a little bit slighted. Given my chosen profession, I obviously try to avoid causing awkward social situations, directly or indirectly. If Mabel, Lambert and Lenore haven’t had all of their questions answered thus far, I can only say that it is due to the fact that I have had other questions to answer as well. In a county of nearly 28,000 people, there are going to be lots of dilemmas to address. I can think of one person in the county who causes so many social infractions that I could dedicate a whole year to his issues alone and wouldn’t have even scratched the surface.

I do hope that from time to time, I can still hear from Mabel, Lambert and Lenore. I would like to hear how they are doing or perhaps advise them on a problem if one should come up. While some of their adventures may be specific to themselves alone, I do feel that some of their issues speak to the broader audience. For example, most of us have had someone like Boozy Ed in their lives that they just can’t seem to get rid of or an uncle who’s got some crackpot conspiracy theories. Thankfully, not all of us know someone who’s spent time in the slammer…at least not yet.

So, please readers (all of you), keep your letters coming. I will try to respond to all of them in due time. My colleagues at the Pulse are very good about making sure your letters reach my desk, cluttered as though it may sometimes be.

Good luck,

Mary Pat
