Manners Matter

Dear Mary Pat,

I’m afraid that my life has no meaning now that the Packers have lost. I know that seems extreme, but I really had my hopes set on the Pack playing in the Superbowl this year. Between the Pack losing and the awful weather, this winter really is a buzz kill. Do you have any recommendations on how I should improve my outlook on life?

Signed,

Dear Crushed,

I know it seems surreal – the Packers have lost. We all thought that the Giants were going to be sent back to New York whipped and defeated, however, that was not the case. It will take a little while for fans to bounce back from the loss, but you need to start looking at the bright side of winter in Door County. Yes, it is cold enough that you lose feeling in your limbs just by opening your front door. Yes, the sky has a color palette that can be described as ominous and depressing at best. Yes, it is hard to stay focused on work when you think of the smarter half of the D.C. population that headed south for the winter. That does not mean you should give up. It’s time to start thinking of more positive things. For example, March 20th is the first day of spring. That’s less than two months away. Plus, the weather can’t stay this cold for much longer. I’m sure a heat wave is on the way and we can stay comfortable in the 20’s and 30’s again. Finally, just think about how much time you will spend on wondering whether Brett will play again next year. That’s bound to create weeks and weeks of speculation and media coverage, not to mention a really good diversion.

Good luck,

Mary Pat

P.S. The Superbowl can still have meaning for us here in Wisconsin. I for one am going to spend all my energy hoping the Giants beat the Patriots. Is anyone else just so sick of Tom Brady!?!?
