Many Links in the Chain

Jewelry by Angela Lensch.

Owner and resident jewelry artist Angela Lensch will debut her 2015 India Collection of hand-woven sterling and gold jewelry on July 23, 4 – 8 pm. Visit the gallery to see the collection and sample authentic Indian cuisine from Kinara Urban Eatery of Sturgeon Bay.

The 2015 India Collection weaves the beautiful sari-wrapped wooden spheres’ which arrive from India as part of the fair trade beads that Lensch helped develop in Jaipur, India.

Incorporating them into her exquisite gold and silver woven jewelry makes each piece a unique collaboration of the two countries. “I really wanted to use my jewelry as a catalyst for change, to utilize my skills at home in Wisconsin while also helping to support women in need on the other side of the world. There were many ‘links in the chain’ that connected to make this project happen. It is so heartwarming to see new links appear and the project continuing to blossom.”

In 2012, Lensch received a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board and the Peninsula Arts Association to help support her project in India. In India, she worked with a women’s empowerment group, teaching them the art of using sari fabric to make unique fair trade beads. This is the third collection that Lensch has created that feature the sari-wrapped beads since 2012.

Angela Lensch Gallery is located at the south end of Egg Harbor at 7653 Hwy 42. The gallery is open daily 10 am – 5 pm through October. For more information visit angelalenschgallery.com.
