Marcia Nickols’ Oils at Base Camp

Marcia Nickols is the featured artist at Base Camp Coffee Bar and will show her oils throughout September and October.

Nickols works with water-based oils and is currently exploring the use of palette knife and various textural mediums including impasto and wax. Water scenes dominate her work because of her fascination with light reflections and movement within the water depths. As the light source changes, a completely new scene emerges offering unlimited painting opportunities.

Henry Ward Beecher said, “Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.” Change “his” to “her” and you have the emotions that go into each work by Nickols. The idea for each painting begins with the emotional feeling looking at a scene.

With a master’s degree in art education, Nickols has taught since 1970 and continues to teach at The Clearing and privately. She is involved with many of the visual arts organizations in Door County and is past president of the Door County Art League. Her work can be seen at PKJ Designs in Ephraim, AMO Gallery in Sturgeon Bay and Mill Road Gallery in Sister Bay.

See Nickols’ work during Base Camp’s regular hours of 7:30 am – 2 pm daily. Base Camp is located at 10904 Hwy 42 in Sister Bay. For more information call 920.854.7894.
