Annually, the Door County Art League (DCAL) has the distinct pleasure of naming the Door County Master Artist. This year at the opening of the League’s 23rd Annual Juried Exhibit, the very well-known and well-respected painter, Margaret Lockwood will be presented the 2009 award.

The Masters Reception and opening of the Juried Exhibit will be held on Sunday, June 14, from 1 – 3 pm at the Link Gallery, located in the Door Community Auditorium, 3926 Highway 42, Fish Creek. The public is invited to peruse league members’ new artwork and meet the 2009 Master Artist and see her latest creations. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and Steve Lavell will entertain guests on the classical guitar.

Lockwood owns Woodwalk Gallery, which contains her straw-bale studio, in a beautiful 1890s revitalized Door County barn on County G in Egg Harbor.

When notified by Rosenfeld that she was this year’s selection, Lockwood said, “I am extremely honored to be chosen Door County Master Artist of 2009, though I can’t really call myself a ‘master.’ I am extremely humbled to be included with the impressive and talented list of artists who came before me.”

A People’s Choice Award will also be given.

The exhibit will continue through Sunday, August 2, at the Link Gallery, which is a new venue for the League’s Annual Juried Exhibit. To learn more about DCAL visit or call 920.559.7530.
