The Door County Maritime Museum has begun removal of the “Ghosts! Haunted Lighthouses of Great Lakes” exhibit to be followed by the installation of the new “Pirates: Ship to Shore” exhibition which is scheduled to open on May 19.
With the Horton Gallery closed in the meantime, the museum has reduced admission prices for the museum to $5 for adults and $2 for youth (ages 5 to 17). The new price presents a spring break bargain for anyone who has not seen the remaining three galleries, including the Peterson Gallery, which is dedicated to the area’s rich shipbuilding history and houses a nuclear submarine periscope; the Roen Asher Gallery, which features vessels and engines; and the Baumgartner Gallery, which includes a impressive model collection.
Beginning March 25, the museum will host a mini-exhibit on “Titanic’s Wake,” which will explore the impact on maritime safety, even on the Great Lakes. This 100-year remembrance will feature a 9-foot model of the RMS Titanic.
The tug John Purves will open for weekends in April when the combination price will be $10 for both the museum and tug ($7 for youth). Admission to the tug only remains at $6.
