Maritime Museum to Christen Lighthouse Tower

The Door County Maritime Museum will christen Sturgeon Bay’s newest landmark – the Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower – on May 22, 11 am, in the museum’s parking lot. Please maintain a safe distance from those who are not in your group, and wear a face mask inside the museum.

This waterfront attraction will educate and entertain visitors about maritime history, and the views from the tower’s 10th-floor working-waterfront exhibit and its rooftop Baumgartner Observation Deck will offer panoramic views of the historic working waterfront.

More than 300 individual, family, corporate and foundation donors have contributed $5.8 million to the tower’s $7.2 million construction capital campaign, including $1 million from the George F. Kress Foundation and a $250,000 Community Development Investment grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.

However, a construction fundraising gap of $1.4 million remains, so the museum continues to seek community support to raise the rest.
