The next offering in the Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series will be Paul Kuehn’s Dec. 5 discussion, “What It Means to Be a Friend of Plum and Pilot Island.” Kuehn will present an armchair exploration of Plum Island and its rich maritime history at Death’s Door Passage, including photos of the island’s flora, and he will highlight the work volunteers have done to save the remaining historic buildings and open walking trails around this Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
The speaker series offers assorted monthly programs about historical topics and current issues that affect the Great Lakes and the economy that relies on them. Programs are held monthly on the first Thursday, 7 pm, October through May, in the Reddin Bridge Room of the Door County Maritime Museum, 120 N. Madison Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. Admission is free with a suggested nonperishable food donation.
