Maritime Week Returns

Sturgeon Bay will once again honor its rich maritime heritage with a diverse collection of entertaining and fun events from July 31 to August 10. Officially titled “Sturgeon Bay Maritime Week: A Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard,” the celebration includes many new and long-standing events.

Maritime Week gets underway with the Sail Thru the Avenues Sidewalk Sale on July 31.

August 5, the Family Centers of Door County will host an outdoor movie at St. Joseph’s School. Everyone is invited to bring their blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy a movie. Concessions will be available.

August 10 is the annual Mariner Award Dinner at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club. The Mariner Award recognizes individuals, both living and deceased, who’ve had a significant, positive and lasting impact on the Door County maritime community. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The dinner will also honor the local Coast Guard Person of the Year. Call 920.743.5958 for reservations.

Other events include the Harmony by the Bay concert series with a musical patriotic tribute, the Sikaflex Challenge, the Salute to the Coast Guard Golf Tournament, “TGIT” Sail Racing and dinner buffet at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club that evening, Paint the Bay plein air painting event, the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s robot boat Coastie, the Museum’s “Pirates – Ship to Shore” exhibit, and Evening on the Bay at the Yacht Club with a boat parade and fireworks.

Sturgeon Bay’s recent designation as an official Coast Guard City makes this year’s celebration even more special. Sturgeon Bay is one of only sixteen communities nationwide to be named a Coast Guard City and is the first, and only, in Wisconsin. For more information and full list of activities visit dcmm.org.
