Mary Donaldson was approved as elementary principal and director of special education of Sevastopol School District

• Mary Donaldson was approved as elementary principal and director of special education of Sevastopol School District. Donaldson has been an elementary teacher, middle school teacher, math specialist, principal and charter school director in the past, and has worked in higher education.

“We are pleased that Mrs. Donaldson will be joining us as we move ahead in continuing to provide a quality 21st century education for all of our students,” said school board president Sue Today in a press release. “She brings to our district the skills and experience that we need. She will be an excellent addition to our school team and to our total community.”

• The Liberty Grove Town Board decided not to prioritize the purchase of the Johnson/Czepulonis properties for a visitor center. Supervisor Nancy Goss said a property task force committee is reviewing the properties up for potential purchase, and prioritizing certain properties would negate the committee’s goals. The property task force committee is scheduled to meet next on June 17 at 7 pm at the Liberty Grove Town Hall.

• At a special meeting of the Gibraltar Area Schools Board of Education on May 20, the board answered questions relating to the employee handbook that two work groups will be following when their union contracts expire at the end of June. There were a number of questions answered about definitions of part-time and full-time employees as well as paid time off related to specific employee groups. The board will bring a final version of the employee handbook back for approval after further review by its attorney, either at a June 10 meeting or a special meeting before the end of June. One employee group has been working under the handbook for the past year.

• Gibraltar Schools are in the process of organizing interviews for their elementary principal position. The school has received a number of applications for the position.
