Master Gardeners Host Programs at Crossroads

The Door County Master Gardeners Association (DCMGA) will host two free programs at the Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay this April.

On April 3 at 7 pm “The Year of the Forest – Door County” will take place. 2011 was celebrated internationally as The Year of the Forest, and Door County continues the celebration by presenting Bill Ruff, Door County Forester of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He will speak about Door County forests, their condition and the challenges they face.

April 10 at 7 pm “Chemicals in Your Garden” will take place. Presented by the recently retired superintendent of the Peninsular Agricultural Research Station, Dick Weidman, the program will present the pros and cons of herbicide and insecticide use in controlling weeds and harmful insects. The program will also explain what works best in Door County, when and how to use these various chemicals, where to buy them, and how and when to apply them. Safety issues will be stressed throughout the program.
